Youngsters at Embsay Primary School have taken part in a world record attempt, to get the largest number of people signing and singing a song at the same time.

They joined more than 950 schools across the country in the Sign2sing initiative, which aims to raise funds for and awareness of the deaf charity. Signhealth.

The project is in its third year and the current world record is 114,277.

In preparation for the challenge, Embsay children and teachers learnt and practised sign language.

The money raised from the event will go towards providing a range of support for vulnerable deaf children and adults including emergency communication support in hospitals and doctor’s surgeries and workshops teaching about healthy relationships and staying safe.
