Local butcher Drake & Macefield has seen trade increase by 20 per cent since the horse meat scandal swept the nation.

And the sales of its freshly made beef burgers at the Skipton and Settle shops have shot up by 30 per cent.

Partner Richard Teal said: “We can’t believe how many beef burgers are flying off our shelves. More and more customers are coming through the door.

“Our meat is sourced from local farms and we pride ourselves on this. Our burgers are not only homemade and totally tasty, but 100 per cent free from horse meat, a promise the local supermarket can’t guarantee.

“We can show the provenance of all the products we sell and pride ourselves on being able to deliver from farm to plate and in knowing every step of the process."
