Gordon Carr celebrated his 80th birthday on a high note – ringing in a quarter peal on the bells of Kirkby Malham Church.
It was a remarkable achievement given that Gordon, who lives with his wife Wendy in nearby Hanlith, only rang the bells for the first time on his 70th birthday.
He is pictured with fellow bellringers George Parker (conductor), Jen Darling, Phil Dore and Stephen Walker, from Giggleswick. The sixth ringer, Allan Gould, was unavailable for the photograph.
The group ring the bells for the Sunday morning service and practise on a Tuesday night. Three new ringers have joined in the last year and anyone else interested in joining should contact tower captain, George Parker, on (01729) 825597.
