Craven residents joined a global day of action, calling for an end to violence against women and girls.

The One Billion Rising event was expected to be the largest day of action in the history of global activist movement V-Day.

Local campaigners met in front of Skipton Town Hall and enjoyed live music, dancing and words of inspiration.

Jette Howard, from Skipton Quakers, said: “One Billion Rising began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that one in three women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime.”

She said Thursday’s event was designed to express outrage, demand change and rise in defiance of the injustices women suffered.
