Brooklands School at Skipton is well on its way to getting a new sensory room – thanks to a group of 24 sponsored walkers.

The special school launched a £20,000 appeal after a flood damaged its previous sensory facility – and so Cross Hills mum Samantha Turner decided to organise a sponsored walk from Keighley to Skipton.

The 12-mile route took in villages such as Sutton, Cross Hills and Kildwick.

“We called into pubs to collect money and stopped people along the way. There were 24 of us doing the walk and it was so much fun. Together we managed to raise £2,684.”

She added that her daughter, Jordan-Louise, had been going to Brooklands for six years.

“They have done so much for her,” she explained. “It’s a fantastic school and I just wanted to give something back.”
