West Craven Sports Centre in Barnoldswick to close for refurbishment

The swimming pool at West Craven Sports Centre will be closed for five weeks to allow major refurbishment to be carried out.

The work at the Barnoldswick leisure centre will include the installation of new changing rooms, showers and lockers and better changing facilities are to be created for families and the disabled.

The poolside area will be closed from Monday and will reopen on Good Friday, March 29.

The gym and exercise classes will continue as normal and a limited swimming and water-based exercise class timetable will be in place on weekdays while the work is being carried out.

There will be no swimming lessons, but two Earby Birds sessions and evening sessions such as aqua circuits, water running and the Moonlight Dip will still go ahead.

Paul Whittaker, centre manager, said: “I know this will cause some inconvenience, but I’m sure customers will agree it will be worth it.

“We are always looking at ways to improve our service and standards to benefit our customers and I’m sure they will see this refurbishment as a significant improvement.”

Pendle Council is paying for the refurbishment work out of its capital programme, following a review by the overview and scrutiny committee, which said changing facilities were outdated.
