St Mary’s Church, Bradley, to celebrate milestone

St Mary’s Church, Bradley, will celebrate a special milestone on Sunday.
It is 50 years since the church moved to its present building on Silsden Road.
The building had previously belonged to the Methodist Church and, through the generosity of the Marshall family, was purchased for use by the St Mary’s congregation, which had previously used the “old tin tabernacle” up Skipton Road.
On March 3, 1963, the opening service was presided over by the then Bishop of Bradford, Michael Parker.
Given the Methodist and Anglican history of the building, it is fitting that on March 3, 2013, the 9.30am service will be a united worship between St Mary’s and Bradley Methodist Church.
The Rev John Peet said: “We are hoping to mark this anniversary later in the year with a coffee morning and display.
“Next year we will celebrate the centenary of St Mary’s acquiring its first building (before 1914 the congregation met in private houses) alongside the 150th anniversary of St John’s Cononley, the other church in the parish of Cononley with Bradley.”
