A white Transit van driver cut a corner and ploughed into a vehicle coming in the opposite direction, removing its front wheel, tearing off body work and causing its brakes to fail, magistrates in Skipton were told.

A dislodged wheel then spun on down the road to hit an oncoming car on the B6160 at Kilnsey on July 30, last year.

Mark Binns, 38, of St Martins View, Brighouse, who pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention, was fined £150, ordered to pay £45 court costs and a £15 victims surcharge.

His licence was also endorsed with five penalty points.
