Lakeland Leisure has lodged an appeal after it was refused permission to extend Long Ashes Caravan Park at Threshfield.

The firm wants to develop and extend the holiday park to accommodate 49 static caravans, 64 tourers and 22 camping pods, along with the erection of associated buildings including a toilet block and reception.

It had argued the plan was part of a comprehensive redevelopment of the site which would bring significant environmental improvements and would boost the local economy with increased visitor spending and job creation.

The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority rejected the plan in September, saying it would have a significant and harmful impact on the surrounding landscape and there was an unacceptable risk of causing detriment to the surface water quality.

No date has been fixed for the appeal.

Copies of the appeal documents can be seen at the Yorkshire Dales National Park offices by prior appointment.
