'Child of Our Time' William Roberts, of Giggleswick, back on TV

Tennis was schoolboy William Roberts’s passion when we saw him some years ago as a small boy on BBC’s “Child of Our Time” programme.
At one stage he was ranked eighth in the nation in his age group.
But as we learned in the last episode of the TV series which intends following 25 children at intervals until adulthood, he had his fill of the sport.
As the Giggleswick pupil told the programme-maker, Professor Robert Winston, last Wednesday: “I was getting a bit tired and not too keen on it. I was looking at other sports which I’m quite good at, like cricket.”
William was seen practising in the cricket nets.
His mum, Gillian, too, who had been with him every step of the way of his tennis journey eventually agreed with his decision.
The programme featured the children as they reached the age of 13, the “in-betweeners” on their way to becoming young adults.
