Children from Burnsall School have raised £590 to buy a Shelterbox, which will deliver emergency shelter and lifesaving equipment to a family who have lost everything following a disaster.

George Garland, Skipton Rotary Club Shelterbox spokesman, worked with youngsters, explaining the types of disasters which befall families in other parts of the world.

As a result they decided to hold a series of fundraising activities over the year to raise enough to fund their very own shelter box.

“We are such a small school and the children have done an amazing job in raising the money for the box,” said headteacher Helen Jameson. “The truly rewarding thing for the children is that each box is uniquely trackable so as a school we will know exactly where in the world it has gone, and who it has helped.”

Boxes contain items such as family tents, blankets, mosquito nets, children’s activity packs, stoves and utensils and water purification kits.
