Police appeal after van driver approaches boys in Settle

Police are appealing for information after two boys were approached by a man who ordered them to get in to his van yesterday (March 13).

At about 3.45pm the two 12-year-old boys were walking along Langcliffe Road in Settle just before the railway bridge when a white transit van pulled alongside them.

The driver turned off the engine and wound down the window and immediately said “get in”.

The boys ran away from the van and hid behind a low wall and watched the van drive passed in the direction of Stainforth.

The white transit van was described as oldish and dirty, with orange diagonal stripes (chevrons) on the back doors that go upwards to form an arrow point at the top of the doors.

The van had black writing on the side and a ladder on the top.

The driver is described as white, aged between 40 and 60, with grey hair that had both light and dark grey colouring.

He had a short but not thick moustache and a short stubble grey beard.

He also had a deep voice.

Anyone with any information as to who this male may be, or any further intelligence on the vehicle, please contact PC Max Barton at North Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
