A former student of South Craven School, Cross Hills, has received his commission to become an army officer.
Matthew Abbott, from Silsden, has completed a one-year training course at the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst and was awarded the prize for greatest proficiency in physical training.
Matthew is now a 2nd Lieutenant and will undergo a further four months training at The Deep Cut Barrack. He will then take up a command post in Rutland.
