A high standard of exhibits was seen at Bolton Abbey Show on Saturday.

The new Come and be Creative class – where children were supplied with materials to make something – proved a great success and will be repeated next year.

Thanks go to the Boyle and Petyt and Montessori schools for covering the hall walls with their impressionist paintings, pictures of sheep and beautiful giant butterflies.

It proved a good day for Cathie Cromarty, who won the Bolton Abbey Estate Cup for most points in adult classes, the Village Hall Flower Shield for best miniature and the prize for the best adult baking with her Victoria sandwich cake. And there were two cups for Margaret Cody – her chutney was awarded the Show Cup for best preserves and her homemade orange gin took the Oakfield Cup.

Tina Butler had the best exhibit in adult crafts and Matthew Hey’s snow scene won the Photography Cup.

In the children’s section, Jazmin Hall won prizes for most points, best baking and best craft and Emily Reynoldson took home the Lady Hartington Cup for the best exhibit from Boyle & Petyt School for her sheep painted without a brush.
