Skipton community organisations are being invited to apply for grants from the town council.

Applications for grants from £100 or more are being invited towards projects within the parish.

But they need to be submitted by the end of June.

Skipton Town Council chief officer Dave Parker said: “We’re pleased the council is able to operate the scheme again this year and we look forward to hearing from groups interested in applying for a grant.”

Grants will be considered for any amount from £100 or more but must benefit groups within the Skipton parish.

Grants will not be awarded to individuals and are not normally given to any organisation more than three years in a row.

There is no maximum amount but the council aims to benefit as many organisations as possible each year.

“Finding cash to fund schemes of this nature is becoming increasingly difficult and the nature of our sources of funding means that we can only generally fund purchases of equipment and materials or contribute towards a specific project,” said Mr Parker.

He said that meant grants would not be awarded towards day-to-day costs or staff salaries.

He added: “The town council does value greatly the work done by the many community groups in the town and we are still keen to support as many as we can.

“The grant scheme is just one way we can achieve this.”

Applications are also welcome as part-payment towards a larger project.

Application forms are available now from the town council and need to be returned by Friday June 28.

Forms are available from the town council offices, above Barclays Bank, High Street, or by email to admin@skiptontown council.gov.uk or by telephoning 01756 794357.
