School play: High Bentham Community Primary School put on a fantastic performance of The Rocky Horror Monster Show. It was a difficult show to tackle, but the pupils gave a confident performance, bringing the house down on the two nights it was staged at Bentham Town Hall.

The story was about 60s superstar Rocky Fenton who turned into a professor, attempting to discover eternal life. Apart from the lead roles, each class had the opportunity to perform at Professor Fenton’s party and they gave their all. Prof Fenton was played by Joe Edwards and the narrator was Travis Taylor. Other characters were Mrs Danvers (Emily Barrett), Rebecca (Megan Whitehead), Dan (Isaac Johnson), Igor (Sam Wills), Insp Baskerville (Fae Donaldson), Gloria (Lara Macdonald), Mungo (Ted Turner), Elsa (Ellie Wills) and Stationmaster (Courtney Townley). They were all magnificent and had learned their lines well, with very few prompts. Other parts were taken by Rhiannon Brayshaw, Luka Beaumont, Morgan Gilmaore, Kayleigh Atkinson, Bronte Bentley, George Tuohy, Shannon Towley, Evie Slinger, Mar Barclay and Josh Park Lea.

In the second half all the classes took part and the audience was well entertained with The Twist by class three, The Time Warp by class two and dancers from class one. The Superbs were magnificent and even dressed the part, One Direction were a great hit and Elvis, alias Luka Beaumont, was fantastic. The band was made up of parents and friends and Libby Wheildon was the musical director with Sue Marshall the producer. Both women are leaving the school to take on headships in the area and we thank them for their hard work with seven years of wonderful productions.

Leavers’ ceremony: On Friday, the year six leaving ceremony took place at the town hall. Stories of their school days were related by teacher Emma Chapman and each child was given a dictionary as a leaving gift along with a certificate. In the evening, the parents of year six children held a Proms Party at the youth centre, with a buffet supper and disco.
