Country show ends food and farming project at Steeton Primary School
9:00am Saturday 10th August 2013 in News
A country show at Steeton Primary School marked the culmination of work by pupils about food and farming.
The children from years three and four organised activities including bread tasting, dry-stone walling and a “Milk a Cow Experience”.
There was also a sheep show, the chance to plant strawberries, plastic flower craft, wool spinning and cupcake making.
As parents and friends visited the school there were baking demonstrations and performances by Steeton Samba Band.
A hamper of Yorkshire goodies, donated by Keelham Farmshop, was raffled to raise money towards transport costs for the next project in September.
Class teacher Wendy Hardcastle said the children had worked very hard for several weeks to prepare for the show, coming up with ideas for activities or making the resources.
She said: “They built upon the experience they had at the Countryside Days event at the Yorkshire Showground. They really enjoyed the process and were rewarded in the wonderful way the rest of the school community embraced the show and the pleasing comments they received.”
