Open day to be staged at Airedale Hospital
11:00am Monday 19th August 2013 in News
Ever wondered how they make wounds look so realistic in the movies? Find out at Airedale Hospital’s annual open day on Thursday.
Budding movie stars Lily Selwood, four, of Carleton, Kyle Richards, four, of Steeton, and three-year-old Keira Lawson, of Barnoldswick, are pictured testing one of the fun activities planned for this year’s event.
Freelance make-up artist Serena Gunpath visited Airedale’s Nightingales Day Nursery to paint some children with realistic wounds to tempt them to turn up.
The open day will run from noon to 4pm in a marquee and the education centre.
There will be more than 60 stalls including a chance to try your hand with surgical equipment and get your blood pressure checked.
For children, there are lots of science and health attractions including a 90ft cave run, cave rescue vehicles, fire engine, and the Life Education Bus.
You can try out fitness sessions, such as the cycle challenge, hula hoop or Thai boxing, meet the Pets as Therapy and guide dogs and pick up some careers advice.
Sodexo, the hospital’s catering company, will be serving freshly made hot dogs between noon and 1.30pm and tea, coffee and snacks from 1.30pm to 4pm. There will also be an opportunity to sample food from the new hospital menus.
