Accident was due to defective brakes
7:00am Thursday 15th August 2013 in News
David Cockett shouted a warning to the woman as she reversed her car out of her drive in Bentham Road, but he still hit her Fiat, the court was told.
He told police who were called out to the collision that he could see the car coming out of the drive, but was unable to stop.
Cockett, 45, who pleaded guilty by letter to using a vehicle with defective brakes, had missed an advisory note included in his last MoT warning him that his brakes would need attention, the court heard.
In his letter, Cockett said he had missed the note because it had been included within the MOT certificate, and not as a separate item as in the past.
He added he would not have left the brakes had he known.
Magistrates fined Cockett, of Bentham Road, Ingleton, £300 and endorsed his licence with three penalty points.
He was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £30 victims surcharge.
