Brothers keep Cononley pubs in the family
8:00am Sunday 18th August 2013 in News
Sibling rivalry is just fun for brothers Neil and Ian Savoury. They might run the only two pubs in Cononley but there’s harmony in the ranks, they say.
Neil, 52, has been in charge of The Railway – where the two men are seen in our picture – since May 21, “rivalling” his elder brother, Ian, who has been at The New Inn for three years.
Neil, who was bar manager at the Rendezvous Hotel in Snaygill for 17 years before taking on the Punch Tavern-owned pub, said: “It was on its back when I took it over but it’s improving quicker than I expected.”
“There’s no real rivalry, we work together. Neil’s son, Adam, chefs for me on Tuesdays,” said Ian, who was in charge of the Snooty Fox in Keighley and has been at The New Inn, a Timothy Taylor tied house, for three years.
“We’re actually coming back to our roots,” Ian added. “We’re born and bred in Cononley and we both went to the village primary school.”
