Embsay churches: St Mary’s will hold its annual summer fete in the grounds of Holy Trinity, Skipton, on Saturday from 10am to 4pm. There will be games, a cake stall, tombola, barbecue and plenty of other stalls. On Sunday, there will be a celebratory family communion service at 9.30am to commemorate the 160th anniversary of the church. The service will be followed by a bring-and-share brunch. This will be Canon Adrian Botwright’s last service at St Mary’s and everybody is invited. On Tuesday, there will be a service of Holy Communion at 10.30am. The Methodist Chapel service at 10.30am will be led by Mrs K Cheney.
Steam railway: On Saturday, you can enjoy a barbecue at Bolton Abbey station. A steam train will depart from Bolton Abbey at 7pm for a round trip to Bow Bridge and then back for the barbecue. Advance booking is essential. The cost is £15 for adults and £10 for children.
Parish council: There will be no parish council meeting this month. The next meeting will be on Thursday, September 12, when the two vacant seats will be filled by co-option.
Carpet Bowls: Embsay-with-Eastby Indoor Bowling Club held its annual general meeting in the village hall. The outgoing chairman reported a successful year and the treasurer reported a sound financial position. Both mentioned that the club would benefit from new members. If anyone is interested, they should contact any committee member or attend the village hall on Mondays or Fridays from 10am to noon.
