Women’s Institute: The WI meets tonight (Thursday) at 7pm in the Institute. The guest speaker will be Joanne Helliwell who, as Betsy the Scullery Maid, will tell members all about her job and life. All are welcome.
200 Club: The Institute 200 Club winners for August are: £25, No 188, David Firth; £10, No 115, Cathy Edwards; £5, No 79, Gerda Thurston.
Coffee morning: Saturday’s coffee morning will be Open the Book and not a fundraiser for the Institute as previously advertised. It will be held in the Institute from 10am and will include a raffle and a cake stall. All are welcome.
Hellifield Walk: There will be a walk this Sunday, meeting in the car park at the rear of Aherne’s at 1pm. The walk will be in the local Hellifield area and will be about five miles long following a fairly easy route. Wear suitable clothing, and bring a drink. Accompanied children are welcome and dogs must be on a lead.
Treasured trains: Visit Dave’s Treasured Trains on Hellifield Station to see a wide range of model railway equipment and to get help and advice. For information, call 01756 749833 or 07580 120951.
Age Concern: Age Concern meets every Friday in Hellifield House, with speakers and entertainment most weeks. The meeting starts at 10am and visitors and new members are welcome.
Health walk: The Walking for Health group will meet at the Maypole Hotel in Long Preston today (Friday) at 10.15am. The walks are suitable for all those who wish to improve their fitness under expert guidance. Those travelling from Gargrave may wish to catch the 9.58am bus which calls at Hellifield at 10.05am.
