Parish council: A discussion took place at the August meeting of Ingleton Parish Council about the fact that there was no mention of Ingleton events in either a national parks tourist guide or the free Yorkshire Dales newspaper. It was agreed each event organiser should ensure publicity coverage, and Coun Weaire will raise the matter with the chairman of the Ingleton and District Tradespeople’s Association.
The clerk reported on one dead tree and one dying tree on the Brow and was instructed to apply for planning permission for their removal if necessary. She had also received a request that the ivy growing along the top wall of the Brow bordering Main Street should be cut back and had instructed the contractor to do this. A street light was reported out on Backgate, near Honey House, and the clerk will report this to Howsons Ltd.
The chairman confirmed the solar panel system on the community centre was working well and the upgraded lighting in the hall had reduced energy consumption there by almost two thirds. An email had been received asking whether the parish council would help fund a sign to advertise jumble sales. This was felt to be a good idea and the chairman will contact the Ingleton Rural Community Association regarding this.
The chairman reported on a recent meeting with North Yorkshire County Council regarding the Middle School playing fields site, when the parish council presented its ideas for the site, namely a skateboard area, a BMX track and a general play area. A detailed plan is being prepared. Ingleton in Bloom had been in contact with the parish council regarding the condition of some of the benches in the village and offering to help with refurbishment. However, the clerk had spoken to M Coggins and he confirmed that the hardwood benches in the Square and along Main Street should be treated with teak oil only and it was agreed that he should do this. Members heard that the swimming pool has had an extremely good season so far.
