Naturalists: A group of members from Craven Naturalists and Scientific Association visited Lower Winskill Farm. They were shown around by Tom Lord, who explained how the farm had evolved from medieval times, through its tenure by Sawley Abbey and subsequent developments. This was helped by comparing the construction of walls on the farm which were of varying ages and styles. As Mr Lord farms in an environmentally sensitive manner, he was able to explain the regime of hay cutting and the use of Highland cattle for conservation grazing in some of the rougher areas. The winter session will start on October 14 at 7.30pm in the Swadford Centre. It will be a talk, entitled Biofuel is our future?, by Jurgen Denecke, of Leeds University Centre for Plant Sciences. For details, contact the secretary on 01535 642180.
