Latest novel by Dales author Michelle Scowcroft will raise funds for Fight for Sight
12:00pm Saturday 17th August 2013 in News
Dales author Michelle Scowcroft will launch her latest book, Squashed Tomatoes and Stew, next week.
And she will donate the proceeds of the kindle version to Fight for Sight.
Michelle has been involved with Fight for Sight, a UK charity dedicated to funding research to prevent sight loss and treat eye diseases, for many years. Her daughter Abi, 35, lives with sight loss and has been severely impaired since birth.
Michelle wanted to put her writing talent to good use and has created an uplifting tale about human compassion and the kindness of strangers.
The novel follows a character called Kitty who escapes the impoverishment left by the Great Depression and the devastating dust storms of 1930s Colorado.
With the support of others along the way, Kitty eventually finds contentment and peace within the beautiful rolling hills of Umbria.
Michelle also runs a tea garden at her home, Higher Bucker House, Bordley, which will stay open until September. She serves snacks and refreshments and customers are asked to donate to Fight for Sight in way of payment as there is no price list.
Michelle said: “I’ve been a passionate supporter of Fight for Sight for many years. Having seen my daughter go through her experience of sight loss only highlights how important it is to raise funds so research can prevent others losing their sight.”
The book will be launched at The Hedgerow, in Grassington, next Thursday, August 22, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. To order a kindle version and help Fight for Sight, visit Amazon amzn.to/12GrwAC
