A total of £10,000 from Pendle Council’s business growth incentive fund has been earmarked for Earby town centre.

Coun David Whipp, chairman of the West Craven Area Committee, said an open meeting with businesses must now be held to determine how best to use the money.

However, one Earby councillor believes the £10,000, which can be used for marketing and promotion, could be used for car parking.

“This money could be better spent on capital investment,” said Coun Chris Tennant (Cons, Earby).

“I think the funds could be used to create a new five or six-space car park on land at Goodall Close.

“This would help alleviate the car parking problem in Earby. This bit of land has gone back to wilderness and is now a dog’s toilet.”
