Grassington & District Horticultural Society held its 36th annual show at Grassington Town Hall on Saturday.

The sun made a huge difference as the record number of 396 exhibits, set in 2003, was beaten when 42 competitors produced 421 exhibits.

The judges were very complimentary about the quantity and quality of the exhibits.

The Grassington Challenge Cup, awarded to the person with the highest points in the show, and the Jim Bell Cup, for the Master Gardener, both went to Philip Johnson.

The Harker-Leder Salver for the highest points in the Vegetable Section: Karen Darwin.

The society’s Flower Trophy for the highest points in the Flower Section and the David Pickles Cup for the best rose exhibit: Mel Wynn.

The society’s Floral Cup for the highest points in the Flower Arrangement Classes: Joan Whitaker.

The Marshall Rose Bowl for the best single flower in the show, a gladiolus, and the Society Cup for the best vegetable exhibit, onions 8oz or under: Mike Cunningham.

The Geoff Cowley Upper Wharfedale Trophy for the best exhibit in the Flower Arrangement Classes: Joanne Hodgson.

The Chairman’s Challenge Trophy for the best geranium grown from a plug previously provided by the society: Nigel Crapper.

The Ron Jenkins Award for the best fuchsia in a pot: Yvonne Kilshaw.
