Family Show Day: You are invited to Bradley Family Show Day on Sunday. The fun starts at 1pm, when the procession makes it way through the village to the playing fields. Eight-year-old Freya Hampshire has been chosen as this year’s Bradley Queen and will take centre stage along with her attendants, six-year-olds Georgina Blandford and Iris Conroy. There is a modest fee for entry to the playing fields from 1.30pm, where there will be a variety of attractions including a ducking stool, inflatable slide, brass band, games, stalls and produce. Making their debut this year will be Rescue Reptiles and Haworth Home Guard, who will have vintage World War Two vehicles on display. The historic Kennet canal boat will also be returning and the afternoon will finish with the tug-of-war. There is still time to enter the show classes, as the deadline for entries has been extended until today (Thursday). Completed entry forms should be handed in at the village shop. Anyone who can help put up the show tents should meet at the playing fields from 6pm on Saturday. Additional helpers are also needed on the day of the show – contact Andrew Symonds on 07801 937056. Money raised on the day is used to support village organisations. Recipients in recent years have included the Brownies, cricket club, both church communities and the playground and canal seating area.
Fell races: The British Open Fell Runners Association (BOFRA) calendar includes Bradley Family Show Day on Sunday, and attracts some of the best fell runners in the country. This year’s U17s race will be one of a series from which the England fell racing team will be selected. Local people are invited to take part in the races, which start at 2.15pm on the playing field and include categories for U9, U12, U14, U17 and seniors. There will be goody bags, prizes and medals. Entry is £3 for adults and £1 for juniors (under 17), with age categories based on age on the day. For more information, contact Tim Done on 01535 634871 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Quiz night: The Slaters Arms will hold its next quiz night on Wednesday.
