Elvis tribute: Elvis Live will be on stage at Grassington Town Hall next Saturday, September 7, from 7.30pm. Elvis impersonator Darren Rivers will be wearing replica Elvis costumes and performing classic songs from the early 50s through to the 70s Las Vegas concert years. Tickets cost £6.50 and are available in advance from The Hub in Grassington on 01756 752222. There will be a bar and proceeds will be in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Coffee morning: Guatemalan street children will benefit from a coffee morning in Church House on Saturday. It will start at 10am.
Embroiderers’ Guild: Grassington Embroiderers’ Guild begins its new season at Wharfedale Rugby Club on Wednesday with a buffet lunch at 12.30pm followed by the annual general meeting. The meeting is for members and prospective members only. Contact Cath Hartley on 01282 843405 if you are interested in membership.
Gills Top: Residents of Gills Top care home have a new sensory area for interactive events, including card games on a Thursday afternoon. The upstairs landing space is also being used for events, including Friday afternoon films.
1940s weekend: Free souvenir brochures are available for the 1940s weekend in Grassington, which starts on September 20. Events include a Battle of Britain memorial fly-past, featuring a Hurricane and a Spitfire.
Bowling Club: The committee of Grassington and District Bowling Club would like to thank members and visitors who attended the annual coffee morning in Church House. The club’s senior doubles competition will be held this weekend and preparations are in hand for a “fun day” of bowling over the 1940s weekend being held in Grassington on September 21 and 22. The following weekend, on September 29, there will be an open day to celebrate 30 years of playing bowls in the Skipton League. Past and present members are welcome to come and share their memories, as are members of other bowling clubs. More detailed plans will follow nearer the time.
