Gun Club: Members of Penyghent Gun Club met in Ring Pot Pasture by invitation of Mr and Mrs Wilson and family. R Carr was the event marshal for the 30-bird sporting layout shoot. He was the competition winner with 28 kills, second was K Iball with 22 kills and third was K Humphrey with 20 kills. A ten-bird pool shoot was won jointly by K Humphrey and R Carr. The most recent shoot was held at Jop Ridding Farm, Austwick, by invitation of Mrs P McEvoy and R Bold was the marshal. R Carr was the winner with 23 kills, second was R Bold with 19 kills and third was E Sharpe with 17 kills. A ten-bird pool shoot was won by R Carr. The next event is a team shoot against Caton Gun Club on Sunday at 2pm in Horton Quarry.
Horton Show: Horton show is approaching and entries are already being trialled and tested in homes in the village and surrounding area. The annual show will be held next Saturday, September 7, in the school and adjoining field and includes sheep classes, a dogs and pets show, old vehicles and a wide range of confectionery, horticultural, crafts and children’s classes. Homemade refreshments will be on sale all day. Anyone inquiring about a trade stand, stall or car boot should contact the secretary, Paula Swainson, at Little Barn, Studfold. Paula would also be happy to hear from anyone who would like to help in anyway on the day.
