Rural association: At the August meeting of Ingleton Rural Community Association, the chairman reported that the community centre solar panels were working well and the new lighting in the hall was saving money. The swimming pool is having a bumper season. Swimming lessons for four to 10 year olds on Fridays have been successful, with 40 children taking part. The aerobics on Thursdays have also been popular. A giant car boot sale is being held in aid of the swimming pool on Sunday, September 8, from 7am to 2pm in the car park of the Three Horseshoes. The cost is £6 per car. The gala has raised £4,826 so far and thanks were expressed to the committee and all who helped on the day. St Mary’s Church harvest festival is on September 29. Brenda Baker is putting together a recipe book to support the church roof fund, so please let her have your favourite recipes. The church jumble sale is on September 14 and Old People’s Welfare jumble sale on November 2. The fireworks jumble sale made £878, the NSPCC Open Gardens event raised £500 and the gymkhana made more than £1,000. Anyone willing to help with the duck race during the Wild West Weekend should get in touch with Elaine Ward.

There is to be a Fake Thackray evening at the community centre on Saturday, November 30, at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £8 and the bar will be available. For tickets, contact 015242 41701. The first prize of £20 in the 200 Club was won by the Toddlers Group, the second of £10 went to Connie Tooby and Dickon Siddall, Brian Lambert and Wendy Moorhouse received £5 each.

Park picnic: Ingleton will hold a Picnic in the Park on Sunday. Everyone is invited to bring along a picnic from noon and enjoy the park, set behind the village square and adjacent to the outdoor swimming pool, children’s play area and the river Doe. Car parking will be available in the village. A new feature will be a showcase corner with exhibits from the community. If wet, the festivities will be moved to the main hall of the community centre. The event is sponsored by Ingleton and District Tradespeople Association and supported by Ingleton Parish Council and Ingleton in Bloom.

Welfare trip: The Ingleton and Thornton Old People’s Welfare committee took 102 over-70s in Bibby’s coaches on their summer outing. They travelled through the Ribble Valley, Bolton by Bowland and Clitheroe to Longridge and Barton Grange Garden Centre. The journey continued to the County Hotel in Carnforth where a meal was enjoyed. A jumble sale will be held on Saturday, November 2, to raise money for the Christmas party on Friday, December 13.
