Parkinson’s UK: Instead of the normal monthly meeting, a number of members accepted an invitation from Mr and Mrs Nash, from Eastby, to view their Japanese garden. Following an introduction, the party was given a tour of the garden with the different plants being explained. One part of the garden had been built on behalf of the Yorkshire Japanese Garden Society by a Japanese professor from Osaka University in Japan. Finally the party was shown the tea house where refreshments were enjoyed.
RAFA news: On Saturday, a Brew For The Few coffee morning to raise funds for the RAFA Wings Appeal will be staged at the club. Don’t forget to get your tickets for the RAF Band Concert on Tuesday, September 10. They are available from Arlene on 01756 791504 or the Tourist Information Centre.
Soroptimists: Geoff Thomas led a group of members around sections of the Millennium Walk in Skipton. He showed everyone parts of the town which they had not visited before and described the history of many architectural features. Over tea and cake in the Soroptimists Rooms in Otley Street, further discussion with members produced additional information about old buildings and characters in the town.
Oddfellows: Vocalist Joel Brown will perform at the Three Links Club on Saturday night. Fish and Chip Bingo takes place on Tuesday, from noon, and the veterans of HMS Vesper invite people to join them at a social evening at the club next Saturday, September 7, from 8pm. Entertainment will include Tim the Saxman, and there will be bingo and a buffet supper. A trip to Bury market is being arranged for Wednesday, September 11, and tickets cost £5 for members and £7.50 for non-members. Book now for the Friendship Tea Party on Sunday, September 15, at £5.
