A mooving tale of triplets in Skipton
3:24pm Thursday 5th September 2013 in News
“It was a bit like taking rabbits from a hat,” joked farmer Mark Webster as he told how he watched his pedigree British Simmental cow, Parasol, give birth.
When she produced a second calf, he wasn’t too surprised because she had presented twins in the past, but when Kingsway vet Andrew Barrett, from Skipton, investigated further and found a third, it was a surprise.
“She’s ten years old and had seven calvings which includes twins and now triplets,” said Mark, who farms at Whittaker’s Barn Farm in Cracoe with his dad, Eddie and son Ben.
“We thought she might be having twins again but never imagined it would be triplets.
“Triplets are born but to have three alive is rare.”
The Websters have a herd of 80 British Simmental pedigree animals which the family has developed over the past 30 years.
