Walker Tony completes 157 miles for charity
5:48pm Thursday 12th September 2013 in News
Residents, staff and friends of Threshfield Court care home turned out in force to welcome general manager Tony Lyon on the last leg of his mammoth Challenge Tony walk between all nine of Barchester’s Yorkshire care homes totalling 157 miles.
With more that 100 people in the welcoming committee, Tony was greeted by local Calendar Girls Beryl Bamforth and Ros Fawcett after completing the equivalent of six marathons in six days – with a couple of pints of Yorkshire ale.
So far, Challenge Tony has raised nearly £2,000, with donations still rolling in. The money will go toward Barchester’s Charitable Foundation – which makes a difference to the lives of older people and other adults with a disability across England, Scotland and Wales.
Tony said: “Now that the blisters have subsided and I have had a chance to reflect on what I have achieved, I would like to thank everyone who has supported me, and, in turn, support the worthy cause that spurred me on to take on the challenge in the first place.”
A cheque presentation will be made to a representative of Barchester’s Charitable Foundation in the coming weeks.
