Countdown has begun to Skipton Puppet Festival
6:25pm Thursday 12th September 2013 in News
The countdown has begun to Skipton Puppet Festival.
More than 30 companies from across Europe will be heading to the festival, which will take place over the weekend of September 27 to 29.
It will offer 80 performances, with a mix of free and paid events, at venues across Skipton and further afield.
There will be plenty of homegrown favourites like the Giant Swaledale Sheep and their sheepdog, who will herd puppets at the Sunday afternoon parade.
And locals can get involved in the procession by creating giant willow, bamboo and paper creatures.
Puppet-building workshops will be held at Stepping Stones in Aireville Park this weekend and again next Saturday and Sunday, September 21 and 22 September, from 10am to 4pm.
All materials are included and everyone can join in. Under 12s need to be accompanied by an adult.
Local businesses have got creative with puppet-themed window displays around the town centre.
As part of a competition, sponsored by Skipton Chamber of Trade and Skipton Town Council, traders have created a “puppet story trail” for shoppers and visitors.
Trophies will be presented for the best traditional story window and the most creative puppet display.
