Skipton Christian Fellowship becomes Champions Church
8:00am Saturday 21st September 2013 in News
The Skipton Christian Fellowship has changed its name to Champions Church.
Since 1908 there has been a Christian church at the top of Carleton Road, and the present building on site was opened in 1950.
Over the years the church has had several different names such as Carmel Pentecostal Church and more recently Skipton Christian Fellowship.
The congregation that meets there is part of a nationwide group of churches called Assemblies of God UK.
Pastor Michael Hulland, the church’s senior minister, said: “The church has had several name changes over the many years of its existence within Skipton, different names for different seasons and in this season we feel re-naming the church to Champions Church marks a step into a new and exciting season of our church’s journey.
“The name Champions Church sums up the belief we hold as a church that having a relationship with Jesus Christ assists people to become overcomers and champions in life.”
To celebrate, the church held a launch day with 5,000 leaflets hand delivered to most of the houses of Skipton and wider afield inviting them to the celebration.
During the day there was a free barbecue and buffet, free bouncy castle and children’s activities and a special Champions church cake.
As part of the re-naming and re-branding, the church is redecorating the interior and exterior of the premises.
