Grassington to stage 1940s weekend
9:00am Thursday 19th September 2013 in News
Grassington will be stepping back in time with its second 1940s weekend.
The success of last year’s inaugural event has been built on, with an even bigger show of military vintage vehicles, re-enactors camps and displays.
And a MK9 Spitfire BR954 will take pride of place alongside a mounted Rolls Royce Griffon aero engine which would have been fitted to the late Spitfire models.
The fun starts tomorrow with an evening of entertainment in the town hall, featuring the Burnsall Empire Players and a Lindy Hop dance.
Skipton British Legion Brass Band will head Saturday’s procession which will leave the Colvend car park at 11am and make its way to the cobbled square where Winston Churchill will address the crowd at noon.
Sunday’s events will include a remembrance service on The Square led by the Congregational Church minister Peter Thomas.
