Driver damaged vehicle at car park
7:00am Thursday 19th September 2013 in News
A 76-year-old woman pulled into a space at Skipton Town Hall car park, scraping the car next to her, magistrates heard.
Heather Durham was seen hitting the car as she attempted to park at 11am on December 5, 2012, and again as she reversed out before moving to another space. She initially denied driving without due care and attention, but changed her plea to guilty on Monday before the start of her trial.
Two additional charges of failing to stop at the scene of an accident and failing to report it were dismissed after the crown prosecution service offered no evidence.
Mitigating for Durham, of Settle Road, Airton, Nigel Jamieson said she maintained she had been unaware of any damage caused to the car.
Police interviewed Durham after witnesses left details with the owner of the other car and found damage to her car.
Mr Jamieson said Durham had been driving for almost 60 years without incident.
She was fined £155, had her licence endorsed with three penalty points and ordered to pay costs of £150 and a victims surcharge of £20.
