Cannabis grinder found during search
12:33pm Thursday 19th September 2013 in News
A routine search of a man entering Skipton’s Strata Nightclub revealed a cannabis grinder and a small amount of resin, the town’s magistrates were told.
James Akrigg, 29, was searched by door staff who believed he might have been carrying a weapon, but instead found the grinder and a small amount of the class B drug, the court heard.
Police arrested Akrigg and searched his home in Ramshaw Drive, where more of the drug was discovered.
Akrigg, who admitted possession of cannabis, had once been a frequent user, but now only had the occasional joint for recreational purposes, the court was told.
Magistrates also heard he had been given a six-month conditional discharge for an almost identical case in December last year and had been in breach of it by a matter of a few days.
For the latest offence, he was given a 12-month community order with 80 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victims surcharge of £60. A forfeiture and destruction order was made on the grinder and cannabis resin.
