Airedale Hospital theatre department to stage open day
8:00am Friday 20th September 2013 in News
Visitors will be able to see if they can cut it in Airedale Hospital’s theatre department.
People can try their hand at being a surgeon during an open day on Saturday.
A host of other hands-on activities will also be on offer at the event, which runs from 11am to 3pm.
Children will be able to meet Sydney the skeleton and dress-up in gowns and masks, which they can then take home.
There will be information about anaesthetics and, using a mannequin, how to look after a patient’s airway.
People can learn about the best way of washing their hands, with a magic box that highlights areas missed.
And there will be displays, health advice, details of career opportunities, a treasure hunt and refreshments.
Free parking will be available in the outpatients’ car park.
Bridget Fletcher, chief executive of Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, said: “It is a really interactive, hands-on event and children love it.
“Everyone is welcome, just turn up on the day.
“It’s also a good opportunity for people to ask staff questions. We hope it will help de-mystify some of the hospital procedures and reassure people who are apprehensive about coming in for operations.”
