Skipton parkrun gets off to a good start
10:00am Sunday 22nd September 2013 in News
The first Skipton 5km parkrun, which will be held every week, saw 198 people taking part on Saturday, September 7.
It has been set up backed by Craven District Council, Skipton Athletics Club and Skipton Wellness Centre with funding from England Athletics, Skipton Rotary and Skipton Athletics Club.
Now more volunteers who can spare an hour of their time, are being sought to help continue the event’s success.
Coun Linda Brockbank, lead member for working with communities said: “The council became involved several months ago when parkrun was discussed at a Friends of Aireville Park meeting. It has taken six months of joint work to organise the parkrun and raise the funds.”
The event is run entirely by volunteers, who can sign up to support the weekly runs via Craven Volunteer Centre and the national volunteer website: doit.org.uk/search/ opportunities/1981709/ or email skiptonhelpers@ parkrun.com.
