Songs of Praise: A Songs of Praise-style celebration of great English hymns will take place in St Peter’s Church, Cross Hills, on Saturday. The event will start at 7pm.
Annual meeting: Cross Hills and Glusburn Senior Citizens held their annual general meeting in the Village Centre. Thanks were expressed to all the members who had helped over the past year, especially Margaret and Roger Nicholson who had tended the garden, Agnes Laycock and Jean Lofts who oversaw the cleaning and Pauline Wellard who dealt with bookings. Members also expressed their gratitude to the young people who had helped with the Saturday coffee mornings. It was agreed to increase the price of coffee on a Saturday morning to £1 as the present 60p was unsustainable. Subscriptions for the year will be £4, due at the end of the month. The meeting was told many organisations used the centre, including the Women’s Institute which was due to stage a coffee morning there on Saturday, October 5. Other forthcoming events include a computer class for beginners, which will run on Monday mornings between October 14 and November 11. The cost would be £3 a session and anyone interested should contact Margaret Nicholson on 01535 632962. Officers elected were: president, Connie Bradley; vice-president, Margaret Poskitt; chairman, Sheila Metcalfe; vice-chairman, Agnes Laycock; secretary, Jean Lofts; treasurer, Margaret Nicholson and committee members Anne Drake, Michael Laycock, Mary Lee, Roger Nicholson, Arthur Poskitt, Jean Robinson, Hazel Tillotson and Pauline Wellard.
