Sea cadets raise funds at Bolton Abbey duck race
8:00am Monday 23rd September 2013 in News
Sea cadets were put through their paces during their annual duck race at Bolton Abbey.
The teenagers performed a colour display then took part in relay races and a tug-of-war.
They also retrieved dozens of ducks that completed their journey along the River Wharfe.
Cadets spokesman Corinne Metcalfe said there were other attractions including tombolas, a book stall, face painting and lucky dips.
She said: “The race was a huge success. The sun shone and lots of people joined in with the spirit of the race.”
The duck race is the main fundraising effort for the Sea Cadet unit, which is based in Keighley.
Corinne said the unit was looking for volunteers for tasks ranging from training cadets to running the management team.
The unit will hold a tabletop sale and open day on Sunday, September 29, at its base in Alkincote Street, near Morrisons supermarket.
