Woman fined after missing court date
8:00am Thursday 26th September 2013 in News
A woman who failed to turn up to court to answer a no-insurance charge was fined £600 in her absence by Skipton magistrates.
Police who went to a traffic collision between two cars at Stainforth on May 26, discovered Nicola Berry was driving a Volkswagen Golf without insurance cover, the court heard on Friday.
Berry, 29, of Moorfield Avenue, Ramsgreave, Blackburn, said the car did not belong to her, but that she was covered to drive it by the insurance on another car, which turned out to be incorrect, the court heard.
Magistrates found the case against Berry, who had a clean licence, proved in her absence and fined her £600 and endorsed her licence with six penalty points. She was also ordered to pay costs of £85.
