Embsay and Eastby residents have their say on future development

The statement incorporates comments and concerns voiced by residents at a special community engagement event, organised by Craven District Council and held at the village hall in early July. The district council is producing a new Local Plan and wanted residents’ views.
“Our statement highlights the views of the parish council and many of our residents about the specific local parcels of land which have been put forward for consideration for future new housing sites,” said parish council chairman Gillian Quinn.
“We have taken on board that a local parish can no longer say ‘no’ to any future land development so the best approach is to work with our local planning authority in a positive way.
“Our general position is that any future development should be within the boundaries of the present development and also in character with the existing provision of the two villages. We are also encouraging development within Embsay and Eastby which can promote business and economic development.
“Our local community will not be producing a Neighbourhood Plan, owing to a general lack of interest. The statement, therefore, is intended to provide general guidelines to the district council and to future developers.”
