New Settle College head Michele Costello sets out key priorities

Following a history and politics degree at Dundee University and a teacher training course in Aberdeen, Ms Costello began her teaching career in Norfolk.
She then went on to work in Milton Keynes as a faculty leader of social sciences and in Hertfordshire as an assistant headteacher before moving to North Yorkshire six years ago.
Ms Costello was a vice-principal at Settle College before moving to Skipton Girls’ High School as head of school.
She said: “I am very much looking forward to leading Settle College through the next phase of its development, ensuring that high-quality teaching and learning is at the heart of everything we do.”
At Settle College’s recent open evening, Ms Costello said: “I am absolutely committed to ensuring that students achieve academic success, but it is also vital that they develop the skills that will prepare them for life-long learning in a rapidly changing world, confident in their ability to meet any challenges ahead.
“High standards of respect, courtesy and behaviour are also vital to the success of any school community’ Ms Costello lives in Settle with her husband and her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter.
She has replaced William Bancroft who was in charge for seven years and is now headteacher of Dallam School in Cumbria.
