Mark Turnbull will be the next headmaster of Giggleswick School.
He will take up the post in August 2014 when Geoffrey Boult steps down after 13 years.
Mr Turnbull, who is deputy head of Eastbourne College, is married with three children and has a degree in geography from Liverpool University and an MA from the University of London.
He is an active hockey, cricket and rugby coach and has led charity and international projects, including ones in Romania and Tanzania.
“It is an enormous pleasure to have been appointed headmaster of Giggleswick School,” said Mr Turnbull. “I have been very impressed by the pupils’ confidence, friendliness and mutual respect.
“I see many exciting opportunities to develop the academic ambition and enviable breadth of experience on offer at Giggleswick, building on its strong boarding traditions. We will do so with our eyes firmly fixed on what the future holds for today’s pupils, equipping them to succeed beyond school.”
Chairman of the Governors Heather Hancock said: “Mark comes to Giggleswick with an accomplished and highly successful track record and real expertise in co-educational boarding. He has energy and vision and a deep commitment to nurturing young people to be confident, outward looking, and with high expectations of themselves.
“Mark struck us all as a man of integrity and vigour, with innovative ideas for the future.”
