Skipton Musical Theatre Company to stage Oklahoma at Mart Theatre

Cowboys will be riding into town next week for Skipton Musical Theatre Company’s show, Oklahoma.
The Rodgers and Hammerstein musical will be staged at Skipton’s Mart Theatre from next Thursday, October 10, to Saturday, October 12.
Set in a Western Indian territory just after the turn of the century, the show focuses on Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, who play out their love story against a background of high-spirited rivalry between the farmers and cowboys.
Although the road to true love never runs smooth, these two headstrong romantics are in for a bumpy ride as they try to make a new life together in Oklahoma, which is about to become the 46th state to enter the union of America.
Musical numbers include Oh What A Beautiful Morning and I Cain’t Say No.
The lead characters are played by Dale Chadwick , who is a regular on the West Yorkshire theatre scene, but has not been seen on the Skipton stage for many years, and Helen Procter, a third generation performer with Skipton Musical Theatre Company. Other cast members include Chrissee Platt (Aunt Eller), Neil Hellewell (Ali Hakim), Colm Ferry (Will Parker), Rebecca Murgatroyd (Ado Annie) and Bill Thompson (Andrew Carnes) They will be a supported by a company of singers and dancers, directed and choreographed by Craig Cowdroy, who has returned after his award winning production of Calamity Jane in 2009. Musical director is Catherine Sweet.
