Batala samba drummers create a splash at Ingleton
9:00am Saturday 12th October 2013 in News
Members of samba drumming band Batala Lancaster like a challenge.
So they were happy to play their instruments while standing in the stream below Thornton Force – on Ingleton’s Waterfall Walk – to raise money for a local charity.
And they made a real splash, raising £128 for the Longstaffe’s Educational Foundation, which provides opportunities to widen the educational experience of disadvantaged young people in the Bentham area.
The band – which plays a style of samba reggae drumming originating in Brazil’s Salvador de Bahia region – is no stranger to performing in unusual places. In 2011 a number of members took on the 25 miles Three Peaks Challenge, carrying their drums, before joining the rest of the band for a performance on the summit of Ingleborough.
