Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson supports blood pressure checks
8:00am Saturday 12th October 2013 in News
Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson had his blood pressure checked as the annual Know Your Numbers! Week.
The national event is organised by Blood Pressure UK and more than 1,000 “pressure stations” were set up across the country, including one at Whitworth Pharmacy in Barnoldswick where Mr Stephenson was checked.
The MP said: “It is vital that people get their blood pressure checked as it can have serious consequences for their health. I would urge people to do the same for what is a relatively quick test that has massive benefits.”
According to research, one in three adults have high blood pressure and a third of them have no idea as it has no symptoms.
The charity says high blood pressure is the UK’s biggest silent killer, responsible for 60 per cent of strokes and 40 per cent of heart attacks.
The research also revealed that nearly nine out of ten people were twice as likely to know their lottery numbers than their blood pressure.
